another princess
it's amazing what i am finding in those boxes that i am unpacking
and it's kind of amazing that i can make any work at all in the mess i am in
inspiration from the farm market:
thinking a lot about portraits
and self portraits
and what that all means to me
it's largely about a truth
when you take a portrait of someone else
it's your truth about them
what you see/feel
about something outside yourself
when you take a self portrait
it's about what you see in you
and the truth comes with how much of that
you are willing to share with the world
and then there's balance
(this image is a return to the abstracted reality series)
in actuality
it is the palm of my hand
but
we all know that it isn't
for so many years now
i've hated our flag
and what it stood for
(never posting an image that had one in it)
that's over now
i am proud to be an american
i am proud of our country
proud that we finally woke up,
recognized a true leader
got off our asses
and voted to change our future
now a little story:
i got new paints today
that's always exciting
but when i started working
i didn't like the texture of some of the colors
they were too sticky
and seemed not to be properly formulated
i once had a tube like that before...
i threw it out
what a disappointment
but then,
i looked at the tubes again
and...
they were oil paints
not water colors!!!!
silly me
:p
so i made a little mixed media painting
(as well as made a mess out of my brushes)
i am not very happy about the amount of stuff in my studio right now
there is just way too much of it
the bottom line is
i make a ton of work
and i am not sure how to deal with it
i have boxes of negatives
and contact sheets
i have boxes of drawings
and pieces of drawings
i have tons of paint
including some tubes that were my father's as a teenager
i have framed work
i have work on panels
i have work on stretchers
i have work taken off stretchers and rolled
i have boxes and boxes
of my daily watercolor journals
i have all the jewelry i made
and the supplies used to make it
and it's all in the middle of my painting space....

minutes apart
