thinking about the next random quote that i will paint from...

there's a new widget in the sidebar
it will display a different quote about art every day
it's part of a new project i am working on
one inspired by the creation of 1stfans at the brooklyn museum
this is a membership that will be completely web driven
all announcements about events & special opportunities to members
will be broadcast via twitter
and each month there will be a featured art piece based in twitter

this has inspired me to create my own project
or actually
expand a combination of projects
to fit this idea
(and maybe become a part of this whole thing)
i'll probably be writing about it more
and it will evolve
but basically right now it involves
1. taking a random quote as a starting point for my daily watercolors
2. tweet that quote
3. paint
4. tweet any thoughts while paintings
5. mobile message the paintings to flickr
6. tweet the urls
7. hope for some kind of response

we'll see...

and it's just like me to embark on another HUGE endeavor
just as i am getting ready to paint...

i did realize in yoga the other day
that i wanted a blank canvas to start on in addition to the unfinished paintings.
i have a stretcher,
but no canvas big enough
so that is the next step...

it will be interesting to see what i do
under the influence of this light

i took my first yoga class in ages

i didn't see it at first
but this kind of says it all

i haven't exactly verbalized it
(fgr made me do it)
but i know it's my new year's resolution:
yoga in the studio in the morning
which leads to
taking class as well

i had such a strong practice before i left the loft
and i thought
that would carry me through the move
but i lost it,
completely,
and i need to start again
(and i have tried before)
but honestly,
i don't think i am able to have the discipline for yoga
if i don't have it for paint

but if i am practicing again,
it means that i am making good progress in the studio;
it is almost as clear as it was before i took everything out of storage

and just in case that whole spiel
in yesterday's post
about numbers and the paintings stored in the basement
didn't make sense
here's the deal:

new year's day in the studio,
still putting it in order

part of what has been taking up so much space was boxes of wood;
stretcher bars, panels, wood for frames, scrap, whatever
all of that went down to the basement

now
it's no secret that i collect a lot of stuff
and that i am a bit of an organizational freak
so, while making room for the wood
i was very surprised
that 4 paintings stored in the basement
were not numbered
and were not in my database

and then i remembered
these were what i was working on
when i stopped painting
to pack up the studio
and now
2 1/2 years later
they are back in my life

it's a bit emotional for me.

as is the fact that i still need to discard more old work
i got rid of about 1/2 the pastels that i came across today
